Blues Traveler's John Popper plays through hip injury
Roots-rockers Blues Traveler have filled in the calendar for the rest of their summer trek, and pushed the outing into the fall.
The band has racked up plenty of live business since releasing "North Hollywood Shootout" last August. They'll cap off the remaining leg of the tour with a portion of the tickets at each show set aside for free to members of the US military. Details are posted at the band's official website.
Following, the tour, frontman John Popper is plotting a few projects of his own. Popper has been active on the band's Twitter account of late, recounting his struggle with hip pain, and is set to undergo another hip-replacement in November, according to fan site bluestraveler.net.
Popper underwent his first hip replacement in early 1998, a procedure hastened by the singer's girth at the time. Popper's weight also contributed to an arterial blockage that required angioplasty in 1999 following a near heart attack. Popper later had gastric-bypass surgery and lost a considerable amount of weight.
Following Popper's hip surgery, longtime Blues Traveler friend and collaborator Jono Manson has posted via MySpace that he and Popper are working together on a songwriting project with plans to record an album together in January of 2010.
Blues Traveler will mark 25 years together as a band in 2012, and Popper has tweeted that the band will be "extremely busy" around that time, though no firm plans have been revealed.
