Raging wildfires in Santa Barbara, CA, have resulted in the cancellation of a number events, including area native Katy Perry 's planned concert tomorrow (5/9) at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
"What's most important right now is fighting the fires that threaten my hometown and saving Santa Barbara," Perry said in a prepared statement. "Naturally, I am very upset, but I understand the circumstances and am counting down the days when we can all be back at the Bowl to celebrate Santa Barbara and experience The Hello Katy Tour Grand Finale! My prayers are with you, Santa Barbara."
Perry's show is now scheduled to take place Aug. 30, and tickets for the original show will be honored on the new date, according to Nederlander Concerts, the event's promoter
The conflagration, dubbed the Jesusita Fire, has also resulted in the postponement of comedian Lily Tomlin's Friday (5/8) and Saturday (5/9) performances at the Lobero Theater, which are now set to take place May 8-9, according to The Santa Barbara Independent. The paper reports that tickets for the original show will be honored on the makeup date, and refunds are also available at the Lobero Box office.
The Santa Barbara Independent also reported that a handful of smaller shows, including the SB Symphony Finale concerts set for tonight (5/8) and tomorrow (5/9), have also been postponed. Details are available at the paper's website.
The Jesusita Fire has been raging in the Santa Barbara area for days, forcing thousands to evacuate. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency Wednesday (5/6).
