New York City's Nokia Theatre was sold out on Friday night (5/1) when it hosted the Road Recovery Benefit, featuring Iggy Pop , Billy Bragg , Jerry Cantrell , Perry Farrell , Tom Morello , Boots Riley, Gilby Clarke , Bun E. Carlos and special guest Wayne Kramer of MC5.
The non-profit group Road Recovery--established in 1998 to help at-risk youth--is led by entertainment industry professionals and mentors such as Joan Jett, Slash , and Ozzy Osbourne . This year's benefit concert celebrated the launch of the Road Recovery Honors, for which the inaugural recipient, Kramer, got to choose an organization to be the focus of a private outreach event. Kramer selected Sing Sing prison, likely due to the fact that he did more than 2 years behind bars back in the '70s. Thus on Saturday (5/2), about 100 inmates were treated to a performance and an interactive discussion by Kramer and friends including Billy Bragg, Perry Farrell, Tom Morello, Jerry Cantrell and Gilby Clarke.
LiveDaily's Christopher Owyoung took photos of the Times Square event, and here are some of his best shots.
