Ben Kweller mounts up for early summer dates

Singer/songwriter Ben Kweller has lined up a brief run of early summer headlining dates in the Western US as he continues to back his latest studio album, "Changing Horses."

The Texas-raised Kweller kicks off the outing June 12 in Denver, CO, and the trek will hit 11 cities over two weeks, concluding with a June 27 show in Austin, TX. Dates are below.

Kweller continues to support his fourth and latest studio set, "Changing Horses," which finally surfaced in February after originally being scheduled for release last September.

"I grew up bass-fishing, playing in creeks, and shooting BB guns," Kweller said in a statement, describing "Horses" as more country-oriented than his previous work. "Country music was the soundtrack to my life. It's still a big part of who I am. When Garth Brooks or Alan Jackson come on the radio, somethin' happens inside. Brings me back to the trees, back to pushin' cars out of the mud. Reminds me of my hometown.

"I've been working on 'Horses' for years," the Texas native added. "I wrote the first song for it when I was 16. Over time, I've collected these songs that fit together and wanted to release them together. I didn't want to try and fit them on my other albums one or two at a time."

The record is the follow-up to Kweller's self-titled 2006 effort, which boasted production by veteran studio presence Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters).
