Styx’s Dennis DeYoung sets orchestral tour
Styx vocalist and keyboardist Dennis DeYoung has set four new dates for an orchestral tour that will showcase his music, the music of Styx, and that of conductor-arranger Arnie Roth.
The concerts will take place in theaters in St. Louis, New York, Columbus, and Cleveland, and will feature a locally culled 40-piece ensemble in each market. DeYoung played similar shows in Chicago and Milwaukee late last year.
DeYoung’s solo career branched from progressive rock with the 1994 release of “10 on Broadway,” a collection of showtunes written by the likes of George Gershwin and Andrew Lloyd Weber. DeYoung has also written, composed and directed a theatrical production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
Styx released a new album titled “Brave New World” in 1999, a reunion album that--to the surprise of many--has been certified gold by the RIAA (more than 500,000 units shipped). However, the band toured in support of the album without DeYoung, who was recently diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome.
