Wyclef Jean, De La Soul, Black Eyed Peas Set For Ten College Concerts

Wyclef Jean , De La Soul and Black Eyed Peas will join forces for next month’s MTV Campus Invasion tour, according to MTV and Columbia Records. The tour is scheduled to kick off at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I., on Oct. 3, and will stop at ten U.S. campuses throughout October.

Jean’s headlining slot on the tour marks his first outing since releasing "The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book" last month. That album--the follow up to the Fugees-member’s first solo release “Carnival”--debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and sits at No. 11 this week. Additional Jean tourdates are expected after the Campus Invasion tour ends in late October, according to a Columbia spokesperson.

De La Soul’s latest, “Art Official Intelligence,” also debuted last month at No. 9. The disc is the eclectic hip-hop trio’s fifth album. The group’s 1989 debut "3 Feet High and Rising” is its most successful disc to date; the album, which featured the hit single “Me, Myself and I,” reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard's R&B Album chart.

Black Eyed Peas, meanwhile, are set to release their sophomore effort “Bridging the Gap" on Sept. 26. The album is the follow-up to the group’s 1998 debut “Behind the Front.”

MTV’s Campus Invasion tour has traditionally been made up of alt-rock acts. Previous outings have featured Bush, Garbage, Blink-182, Moby, Lit and others.
