Jennifer Hudson's brother-in-law charged with murder

Jennifer Hudson's estranged brother-in-law has been charged with the October murders of the performers' mother, brother and nephew.

Chicago police say they have the murder weapon and physical evidence as well as testimony that is sufficient to lead to a conviction of William Balfour, 27, the estranged husband of Hudson's elder sister, Julia, according to a Reuters report.

Hudson's mother Darnell Donerson, 57, and brother, Jason Hudson, 29, were found dead from gunshots in the family's Chicago-area home on Oct. 24. The body of Hudson's nephew, Julian King, was found four days later; the gun used in the slayings reportedly was found nearby.

In addition to the murder charges, Balfour was charged with home invasion.

Balfour's mother has maintained her son's innocence, telling reporters the police relied on the word of one of his girlfriends who was facing a drug charge. However, a police spokesperson said no deals were made in exchange for witness statements implicating Balfour, who has been held on a parole violation since the slayings.
