Allmans, Black Crowes, Others To Play Allen Woody Benefit
The Allman Brothers Band , the Black Crowes, Hot Tuna, Phil Lesh & Friends and surviving members of Gov't Mule are among the artists performing at a benefit concert in memory of the late Gov't Mule bassist Allen Woody at Roseland in New York on Sept. 21.
"One for Woody," as the benefit has been named, will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $75-$100 with proceeds going to a trust for Woody's his wife and daughter, according to the official Gov't Mule website.
Woody, who was bassist for the Allman Brothers Band while also holding the same slot in Gov't Mule before leaving the Allmans in 1997, was found dead in his hotel room in Queens, N.Y., on Aug. 26.
Toxicology reports have not been completed, and the cause of his death remains unknown.
Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band was absent from Woody’s Aug. 31 funeral, but banished member Dicky Betts was in attendance, and even jammed acoustically with other Allman Brothers Band members. A bevy of other southern rockers jammed as well, including members of Lynyrd Skynyrd and .38 Special.
