Weekend Ticketing: Cypress Hill’s ‘Smoke Out,’ Mary J. Blige, Burning Spear, Kenny Rogers, Others

The Labor Day holiday means that there’s a fairly uneventful ticketing weekend ahead, and many of the most notable on-sales are set to take place on Friday. Friday on-sales are planed for the Cypress Hill Smokeout, three Mary J. Blige shows, several Burning Spear performances, and a multi-night stand by Kenny Rogers in Atlantic City.

Ticket on-sales for Cypress Hill’s third “Smoke Out” festival--which is set to take place on Oct. 7 in San Bernardino, Calif.--will spark up at 4:20p.m. on Friday (9/1). Among the 40-plus acts scheduled to join the red-eyed rappers on the bill this year are 311, System of a Down, Pennywise, Redman, Erick Sermon, Gang Starr, and Xzibit.

The 14-hour festival will feature four stages, a laser show, vendors, “massive munchie gardens,” fireworks, and tattoo and henna artists.

The National Orange Show grounds in San Bernardino--the same facility that will host the Smoke Out--will also play host to a hip-hop/rave event called “Oracle 3” on Sept. 16. Among the acts scheduled to appear are Wu-Tang Clan, Mos Def, Redman, Tony Touch, and Visionaries.

The event will also feature fire dancers, massage areas, face painting, drum circles, games and rides, according to event producers. More information and tickets are available at the Delphi Productions website.

Kenny Rogers--who made an unlikely hip-hop cameo on the new Wyclef Jean album “The Ecleftic”--is scheduled to open a three-night stand at Atlantic City’s Tropicana Casino on Oct. 27. Tickets for all three concerts go on sale Friday (9/1) morning.

Hip-hop soul purveyor Mary J. Blige has been touring sporadically all year in support of “Mary,” her fifth album. Tickets for her upcoming performances in Orlando, Fla., Providence, R.I., and Louisville, Ky., are scheduled to go on sale Friday (9/1).

Reggae legend Burning Spear plans to play more than 60 concerts in North America before 2000 comes to a close. Tickets for his shows in Boulder, Colo., and in three separate Denver venues are set to go on sale Friday (9/1); a Saturday (9/2) on-sale is planned for a concert at Detroit’s Majestic Theater.

Sure it’s only Labor Day, but it’s not too early to think about the holidays. Evidently.

On Nov. 10, pianist Lorie Line and her Pop Chamber Orchestra will open a holiday tour, and tickets for all shows are scheduled to go on sale Friday (9/1). Various ticketing companies and box offices are handling ticket sales; a complete itinerary and ticket information are available on Line’s official website.
