LONDON--American acts led the field of nominees for the Kerrang! Awards, an annual event presented by the long-running British music publication. Slipknot garnered the most nominations--which were announced on Tuesday (8/22)--scooping up nods for best international newcomer, best international live act, best video, best single, best album and best band in the world.
Korn was a close second, receiving five nominations for best international live act, best video, best single, single, best album and best band in the world. The other American group who proved that it is a top choice with British teenagers was Blink 182 , which received four nominations for best international newcomer, best international live act, best video and best single.
Metal and hard rock veterans faired poorly in comparison to relatively new bands. Metallica and Iron Maiden received two nominations each, while Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson received only one each. Meanwhile, British indie band Stereophonics, who had dominated the awards in the past, received only two nominations.
The winners--who will be chosen mainly by readers, but also by Kerrang! staff and music industry insiders in some categories--will be announced at a ceremony in London on Aug. 29. The full list of nominees can be found on the official Kerrang! Awards site.
