Webnoize's newsletter made this interesting point: "The music industry says Napster hurts CD sales....But buying a used CD is a clear instance of a lost sale."
And you know what else is a clear instance of a lost sale? Mix tapes. Every time a young person in love presents the object of his or her affection with a mix tape, that young person is saying, "Will you be my accessory after the fact?"
If you're a young person in love, don't give that special someone a mix tape. Rather, give him or her a list of the songs that best represent your feelings, in the order that you would like the songs to be listened to, along with the titles and list prices of the CDs on which the songs can be found.
Love is no excuse for music piracy.
