Les Claypool backs new album with 'Mutated Mini Fest'

Eccentric rocker Les Claypool has assembled a coast-to-coast spring trek to coincide with the release of his forthcoming solo album.

The 18-city "Oddity Faire - A Mutated Mini Fest" is set to launch March 4 in San Diego and wrap in New York City by month's end. In between, Claypool and his band--percussionist Mike Dillon, drummer Paulo Baldi and cellist Sam Bass--will hit a host of major markets, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto. Details are listed below.

An eclectic list of acts comprising Saul Williams, Yard Dogs Road Show, Devotchka, Secret Chief 3, O'Death and Mutaytor will take turns in the opening slot.

Claypool is gearing up for the March 17 release of his new solo effort, "Of Fungi and Foe," according to various news sources. The set reportedly grew from material that the Primus frontman has recorded over the past few years for the video game "Mushroom Men" and the motion picture "Pig Hunt," and it includes a jam session with charismatic Gogol Bordello leader Eugene Hutz.

The forthcoming release will follow Claypool's 2006 effort, "Of Whales and Woe," his first studio collection released under his own name. He has since offered up the 2007 "Fancy" DVD, which captures his 2006 solo tour from a fan's perspective, and last year's "National Lampoon presents Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo," a humorous feature-film mockumentary about jam bands.

Claypool also shows up on the recently released "Live from Bonnaroo 2008" DVD.
