Beastie Boys' Mike D To Undergo Surgery

Beastie Boy Mike Diamond (a.k.a. Mike D) will undergo surgery on Monday (7/31) to repair separated ligaments in his collarbone and right shoulder, according to a statement released on the band’s official website.

Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine postponed their planned co-headlining tour earlier this week due to Diamond’s injuries, which he suffered in a bike-riding accident on Saturday (7/22). The co-headlining tour was scheduled to kick off in Toronto on Aug. 2.

According to the statement, Diamond will need to rest for at least six weeks following the surgery, and then will undergo intensive physical therapy for an undetermined amount of time.

"On the real, things like these serve as our greatest teachings,” Diamond said in a statement. “The incident happened so fast and so close to my NYC home, yet it has affected so many people's plans for the future. So just when we think we are in control, we are awakened to realize that it is just an illusion of control that we live with. I'm just thankful that all my body parts will soon be functioning normally once again. Relatively speaking, of course."

The Beastie Boys-Rage Against the Machine Rhyme and Reason tour is expected to go on the road after Diamond recovers.
