Stone Temple Pilots plan to release a greatest hits compilation this fall, according to the band’s manager. The album will include several new tracks, and will be accompanied by a DVD release.
STP manager Steven Stewart said that, though nothing is “etched in stone,” the greatest hits album, tentatively titled “Big Bang Babies,” will probably be released in late October or early November. In addition to featuring hits from STP’s four-album catalog, the compilation will also contain previously unreleased tracks. The band also plans to record at least one brand new track specifically for “Big Bang Babies.”
A DVD featuring some of the band’s music videos and live performance footage is also in the works, and is expected to be released in conjunction with the greatest hits album.
In their spare time, STP's singer Scott Weiland and bassist Robert DeLeo have been working with some high-profile artists. Weiland, who contributed a vocal track to Limp Bizkit’s 1999 breakthrough album “Significant Other” has reportedly been collaborating with the band on its forthcoming album, “Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water.”
DeLeo, meanwhile, has been writing songs with Ozzy Osbourne, Stewart said, and, according to published reports, has also been doing some writing with Aerosmith. No information was available on when his collaborations with those artists might be released.
STP is currently on tour in support of its latest release, last year’s “No. 4.” The band is scheduled to take over the opening slot on the Red Hot Chili Peppers tour on Sunday (7/30) in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., following a series of headlining performances in Orlando, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Boston. The group’s run with the Chili Peppers is scheduled to end on Sept. 22.
