Willie Nelson 's non-stop tour continues to grow, with a new run of dates stretching into December.
The hard-charging country icon resumes his fall outing Oct. 16 with a two-night stand in Bossier City, LA, and he'll visit more than 20 US cities in the South and Midwest through Dec. 7. The tour features a seven-night run through Nelson's home state of Texas, including two gigs at Houston's House of Blues. An updated itinerary is listed below.
Nelson's annual Farm Aid benefit was held last month in Mansfield, MA, and the performer announced that the organization would donate $30,000 to support Texas and Louisiana family farmers who were hardest hit by hurricanes Ike and Gustav.
"We might not know the full extent of the damage yet, but we do know that family farmers will need our help to rebuild and to get back on the land quickly, growing good food for all of us," Nelson said in a statement.
Farm Aid will distribute additional funds as more information about the extent of the damage becomes available, according to a press release.
In addition to his humanitarian and political efforts, Nelson has kept his plate full this year with a variety of music projects. The 75-year-old Grammy winner continues to churn out album after album, the latest one being a live collaboration with jazz master Wynton Marsalis. The set, "Two Men With the Blues," topped Billboard's jazz albums chart in July. It was recorded last year during a two-night stand at New York City's Jazz at Lincoln Center and features well-known offerings including "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It," "Ain't Nobody's Business," "Caldonia" and "Stardust.
There's been no word as to whether Nelson and Marsalis will tour together to support the record, but the two have made plans to perform at New York City's Rose Theater next February as part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center's concert and education season, according to a press release.
Nelson has also charted a couple of hits packages this year, as well as his latest solo set, January's "Moment of Forever." That Kenny Chesney-produced album features a few Nelson originals and a couple of Chesney-penned tracks alongside interpretations of songs by Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman and others.
Nelson continues to hone his acting chops as well, appearing in Toby Keith's latest film, "Beer For My Horses," and agreeing to star in Stereo Vision's 3D Wild West ghost story, "Secrets of the Lost San Sabas."
