Oasis postpones show following onstage attack
With singer/guitarist Noel Gallagher still smarting from injuries he suffered after being knocked down from behind during Oasis ' Sunday (9/7) performance in Toronto, the group has postponed the final night of its Canadian tour, which was due to close out tonight in London, Ontario.
"Noel fell heavily on to his monitor speakers when he was pushed suddenly from behind by his attacker and suffered bruising to his ribs and hip," the band wrote in a message posted today (9/9) at its website. "He was examined in a local hospital after the band's performance and has been advised to rest. Unfortunately, despite resting up yesterday, the extent of his injuries mean he will not be able to perform tonight."
The group has already announced a Dec. 15 makeup date, and tickets for the original performance will be honored on the new date. Refunds are also available at the point of purchase.
Oasis' Sunday concert in Toronto was interrupted when a man--later identified as 47-year-old Ontario resident Daniel Sullivan--charged across the stage and shoved Gallagher from behind.
Sullivan was immediately apprehended, and has since been charged with assault.
The band's next scheduled performance is a Friday (9/12) club gig at New York City's Terminal 5. As previously reported, tickets--which quickly sold out--were available fans who registered at the band's website.
