With a new member in the fold and a fresh studio album on the way, indie-pop ensemble Of Montreal has mapped out dates for a fall headlining tour.
The Athens, GA-based group kicks off the US portion of its run Oct. 7 in Durham, NC. The 23-date outing will introduce the band's new touring drummer/multi-instrumentalist, Ahmed Gallab of Ohio's Sinkane.
Sinkane and Gallab will also open several of Of Montreal's upcoming shows. Check Of Montreal's MySpace page for more information and international schedule. Domestic dates are included below.
Of Montreal has set an Oct. 7 release date for its ninth studio effort, "Skeletal Lamping," which follows closely after last year's "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?"
"I am very happy with it," frontman Kevin Barnes wrote last fall of the forthcoming set on the band's MySpace blog, while noting his worry that "some people are going to misunderstand it. There's nothing I can do about that though, now, it is done. Anyways, I didn't create it to give people something to like. I created it because I was compelled to."
"It is possible to view this album as one long composition, with lots of different movements, or just as a collection of pop songs," Barnes added.
Of Montreal, supposedly named after Barnes' broken romance with a woman from the Canadian city, formed in the late '90s as part of the second wave of bands to emerge from the Elephant 6 collective, a notable musical co-op and recording label that spawned Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel and The Apples in Stereo, among other bands.
