Tony Award-winning singer Idina Menzel is on the road this summer, backing her Warner Bros. Records debut, "I Stand."
Menzel, who completed her latest round of US dates late last month, will continue July 17 in Nashville and then make her way from the East Coast to the West Coast through mid-August. Details are listed below.
The Broadway star, best known for her performances in "Rent" and "Wicked," released her third solo album, "I Stand," in January. The 10-song set features pop tunes and ballads written by Menzel and produced by Grammy winner Glen Ballard.
"For the first time in my life, I had a feeling of complete artistic freedom," Menzel explained in her bio. "I've wanted to work with Glen forever. He really understands musicians and provides the perfect environment for creativity. Not only did he have a deep understanding of the complexities and timbre of my voice but he celebrated my talent as a songwriter."
A few songs from the album and the video for the lead single, "Brave," are streaming at Menzel's MySpace page.
The New York native started her career singing at weddings and bar mitzvahs, and performing with rock bands in NYC clubs. In 1995, she landed the role of Maureen in the Broadway-bound "Rent," which went on to win four Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize. In 2003, Menzel originated the role of "the green girl" in the musical "Wicked," a part that earned her a leading-actress Tony.
On tour, the singer/songwriter/actress is expected to perform her own songs as well as a few from her theater outings, according to Playbill.
