Beck, Black Crowes top Street Scene lineup

This year's San Diego Street Scene will return to its roots with a two-night, downtown concert featuring headlining performances from Beck and The Black Crowes.

The Sept. 19-20 festival is scheduled to take over a portion of the Tailgate Park parking lot, adjacent to Petco Park. Four stages will host 40 bands, including The National, Spoon, Justice, TV on the Radio, Atmosphere, Cat Power, Tegan and Sara, Sound Tribe Sector 9, and Michael Franti & Spearhead. The initial lineup is listed below.

Doors open at 4 p.m. each day and the all-ages shows end at midnight. Two-day passes are available at the Street Scene website for $75 plus service charges.

The 24th annual Street Scene is returning to downtown San Diego this year after being held in Chula Vista last year and Mission Valley in '05 and '06, according to the San Diego Union Tribune. The festival, which has drawn more than 100,000 fans in the past, is downsizing this time around.

"I think people will like the fact this will be smaller and will again have an urban vibe," festival founder Rob Hagey told the Union Tribune.

Hagey is also reportedly going for a fresh new feel and direction by focusing on buzz bands such as Vampire Weekend, Hot Chip, Cold War Kids and MGMT.
