Journey has added dates to a summer tour behind its new 3-disc album, "Revelations," which has sold more than 104,000 copies in its first week on store shelves.
The album, available exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores in North America, as well as Journey's website, heads a busy run of events for the band, which picked a new lead singer earlier this year and will soon head out with Heart and Cheap Trick for a lengthy summer outing that gets underway July 9 in Englewood, CO.
The group will hit more than 50 cities through October, most of them with the two other acts. Details are included below.
Produced by Kevin Shirley, who previously worked with the band on 1996's "Trial By Fire" and 2000's "Arrival," the new 3-disc "Revelation" features 11 tunes penned by guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain, another disc containing re-recorded versions of classic Journey songs, and a live DVD.
"I felt strongly about moving forward and writing new material. It was time," Schon said in a press release, describing the process of putting together the follow-up to 2005's "Generations."
"There's an innate trust and respect for what we each do as we weave our way through this music," added Cain. "We've been doing this for so long together, we both know what we want to hear, and we both know what works for the band."
The outing and new album--which hit stores earlier this month--marks the debut of new Journey singer Arnel Pineda, whom the group crowned in December as the replacement for the band's previous vocalist, Jeff Scott Soto, who split with the group last May after fronting the act for less than a year. Pineda is the group's third lead vocalist since the departure of Journey's best known singer, Steve Perry, who called it a day in 1998.
"Not only can he cover our old material, but he's such a diversified performer that it leaves everything wide open to where we can go," said Schon of Pineda, who the band discovered by first seeing YouTube videos of him performing in The Philippines with his former band, The Zoo. "He's got tremendous abilities and he's an outstanding performer, which people will soon find out."
