Youngsters get ready to rock with Kidz Bop Live

The Kidz Bop phenomenon is set to return to the concert stage this summer, much to the delight of fledgling music fans across the US.

The tour, which will feature six kids singing and dancing to a live band, is scheduled to kick off June 18 in Englewood, NJ, and make its way from the East Coast to the West Coast through mid-August. The children's group will also cross into Canada for six shows in Edmonton over three days. The itinerary includes a host of well-known concert venues and rock clubs, including Washington, DC's 9:30 Club and Chicago's House of Blues. Details are listed below.

Kidz Bop, which has had youngsters rockin' to popular songs on CD for several years, crossed over to the live arena for the first time last fall. Kidz Bop Live is choreographed by Kishaya, who has worked on videos for Ashanti, P. Diddy and Destiny's Child, and won an MTV Video Music Award for Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl," according to a press release. The show's musical director, John Clancy, is currently co-orchestrating the Broadway production of "Shrek" and working as the full-time drummer in the Broadway hit "Grease."

Over the past seven years, the Kidz Bop CD series has grown to include more than a dozen titles, scored nine gold-album certifications and logged sales of more than 10 million units, according to a statement. The series, billed as "today's most popular songs, sung by kids for kids," expanded yet again in February with the release of "Kidz Bop 13," which includes teeny-bop renditions of 18 songs, including Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry," Daughtry's "Over You," Jonas Brothers' "S.O.S.," Avril Lavigne's "When You're Gone" and "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White T's.

The franchise, which targets the 4 to 11 set, has also offered up genre-specific albums including "Kidz Bop Country" and "Worship Jamz," as well as holiday titles such as "Kidz Bop Halloween" and "The Coolest Kidz Bop Christmas Ever."
