The Steve Miller Band will return to the road in late May for its 2008 North American summer tour, and fellow rock veteran Joe Cocker will come along for the ride.
Steve Miller and company, who just wrapped a sold-out, three-night stand at San Francisco's Fillmore, are set to launch the 37-city jaunt May 24 in West Palm Beach, FL. The tour will crisscross the US through mid-August and stop in Toronto along the way. Dates are listed below.
Fans can expect the classic rockers to perform hits from their large catalog--like "Take the Money and Run," "Rockin' Me," "Jet Airliner," "The Joker," "Fly Like An Eagle," "Livin' in the USA" and "Abracadabra"--as well as obscure fan favorites, classic blues standards and improvisations, according to a press release.
A few days before the tour kicks off, the band will release a new DVD, "Live From Chicago," which captures the Steve Miller Band's 2007 two-night stand at Chicago's Ravinia Festival in 5.1 Surround Sound and state-of-the-art high definition, according to a statement. Fans can also catch "Live From Chicago" on PBS-TV during the month of June.
The group's most recent release is 2003's "Young Hearts--Complete Greatest Hits," which traces its 35-year affiliation with Capitol Records. In 2006, Miller and company re-released their legendary 1976 album, "Fly Like an Eagle," in a special dual CD/DVD 30th Anniversary Edition. Their most recent collection of new material is 1993's "Wide River."
Cocker is supporting last year's greatest-hits set, "Classic Cocker." His most recent studio effort is 2004's "Heart and Soul," on which he covers songs including Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell On You," U2's "One," John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" and Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On."
The Steve Miller Band has sold 25 million albums since Capitol Records released its debut, "Children of the Future," in 1968, according to a press release. A series of Top 40 records followed, including 1976's "Fly Like an Eagle," which scored four hit singles and has since reached quadruple platinum status. In 1978, Capitol released "Greatest Hits: 1974-78," which has been certified 13-times platinum.
Miller will be honored with the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award at the organization's 25th annual Pop Music Awards, which will be held April 9 in Los Angeles.
