Pitchfork fest unveils initial lineup with Public Enemy, others
The 2008 Pitchfork Music Festival will feature hip-hop legends Public Enemy performing their 1988 album "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" in full.
Other acts currently signed on for the fest, which is set to return July 18-20 to Chicago's Union Park for the third straight year, include Animal Collective , Spiritualized , M. Ward , Vampire Weekend and many others. A complete list of performers is included below.
Public Enemy's performance of "It Takes a Nation of Millions"--the group's influential second studio album and widely considered its masterpiece--will continue the festival's "Don't Look Back" serial collaboration with British music festival All Tomorrow's Parties, "in which artists play their classic albums in full," according to a statement. Previous artists given the "Don't Look Back" treatment include Sonic Youth, GZA and Slint.
Tickets for the event go on sale Wednesday (3/12) and will run $65 for a full three-day pass. Two-day passes for Saturday and Sunday only cost $50, and tickets good for any individual single day cost $30. Check the festival's website for more information.
Last year's event featured Yoko Ono, Sonic Youth and The New Pornographers, among other acts. The event is sponsored by music website pitchforkmedia.com, which curated the initial version of the event, the 2005 Intonation Festival, at a different Chicago park.
