Lil Wayne charged with three felonies

Rapper Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) was slapped with three felony drug charges by the Yuma County Attorney's Office on Friday (1/25) a few days after federal agents said they found illegal drugs, including cocaine, on his tour bus at a checkpoint in southwestern Arizona.

Carter was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday (1/22) after his tour bus was stopped at a US Border Patrol checkpoint near Dateland, AZ, 78 miles east of Yuma. A search of the bus reportedly yielded four ounces of marijuana, more than an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of Ecstasy and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, The Associated Press reported. Drug Enforcement Administration agents then arrested Carter.

Officials also found a .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida.

The 25-year-old Carter was charged with possession of narcotic drugs for sale (cocaine), possession of dangerous drugs (ecstasy), misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Kevin J. Tunell, Yuma's director of public and legislative affairs.

Also on Friday, two of the 11 companions traveling with Carter on his bus--Curtis Stewart and Harold Hal Johnson--were each charged with possession of marijuana.

Carter's next scheduled court date is a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 12. He is free on bail.

The New Orleans native is also facing a pending drug case in Atlanta, and gun and marijuana charges in New York. Additionally, a Miami jewelry company claims Carter owes it $146,000.
