Avril Lavigne expands 'Best Damn Thing' trek

More dates have been added to Avril Lavigne 's upcoming North American tour to support her latest release, "Best Damn Thing."

The outing is scheduled to launch March 5 in Victoria, British Columbia, and visit cities all over the US and Canada into May. Since last check, dates have been added in Minneapolis; Atlantic City, NJ; East Rutherford, NJ; Boston; Montreal; and Uniondale, NY. Details are listed below.

Dancers and a live band will join Lavigne on the road, along with special guests Boys Like Girls .

Following the North American jaunt, the punk-pop princess will segue into an extensive European run beginning in late May. Those dates can be found at her website.

Fans are no doubt anxious for the live performances since Lavigne has yet to tour behind "Best Damn Thing," which surfaced in April. The platinum-selling set topped the US album chart, and lead single "Girlfriend" shot to No. 1 on The Billboard Hot 100. The album and song scored Lavigne two wins each at last year's World Music Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards.

"Best Damn Thing" has also spawned pop hits "Keep Holding On," "Hot" and "When You're Gone." The album follows Lavigne's 2004 multi-platinum set, "Under My Skin."

The singer/songwriter burst onto the music scene five years ago, at age 17, with hit singles "Sk8r Boi" and "Complicated." Her debut album, "Let Go," snagged eight Grammy nominations and four Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys). She has since sold close to 30 million albums worldwide, according to a press release.

Lavigne has also branched out into acting, appearing in Richard Linklater's "Fast Food Nation" and lending her voice to the Dreamworks animated film "Over the Hedge."
