Welsh alt-rockers Super Furry Animals will mount a North American trek early in 2008 behind their latest album, August's "Hey Venus!"
The trek kicks off Jan. 23 in Hoboken, NJ, covering 24 cities in just over a month. The schedule includes a few co-headlining dates with indie rockers The Fiery Furnaces, and the trek will get additional support along the way from indie electronic act Holy F---. Dates are below.
Super Furry Animals' first full-length release for the Rough Trade label, "Hey Venus!," follows 2005's "Love Kraft." The new set--produced by Super Furry Animals and David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Apostle of Hustle)--was originally conceived as a concept album, according to the band.
"A lot of the songs have the same central theme--following a young woman called Venus moving from a small town to a big metropolis and following her adventures," lead singer Gruff Rhys told Britain's NME.com earlier in the year.
"Some songs link up to that story more than others, but some were left off the record, they'll be on the next one, which we're working on already. It started off as a concept, but then we chose songs for their merit rather than their themes."
