A new incarnation of Cirque du Soleil will take up residence at Hollywood, CA's Kodak Theatre beginning in 2010.
The $100 million production is the centerpiece of a 10-year agreement between Cirque and CIM Group, which owns the Hollywood & Highland Center where the 3,400-seat Kodak Theatre is located. As per the deal, the cast of 75 performance artists will present the show 368 times a year, according to a press release.
"Bringing a permanent show to the Kodak Theatre is a tremendous attraction for both residents and tourists," CIM Group founder Shaul Kuba said in a statement. "This commitment from Cirque du Soleil is another significant milestone in the continuing rebirth of Hollywood as a flourishing community with a vibrant daytime and nighttime population."
While few details about the production's content are available, Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte has said it will focus on Hollywood's place in the history of cinema.
Cirque is also readying a new Las Vegas show that will team the performance troupe with illusionist Criss Angel. The spectacular, set to open next summer at the Luxor Resort and Casino, will fuse Angel's mind-blowing magic with acrobatics, dance, puppetry, music and poetry, according to a press release.
"I am confident that this collaboration will culminate in what is destined to become one of the most exciting shows Las Vegas has ever seen and redefine magic in the same way Cirque du Soleil has redefined the circus," Angel said in a statement.
Cirque du Soleil, which debuted more than 20 years ago, has brought its brand of modern circus art to nearly 70 million spectators on five continents, according to a press release. This year alone, the award-winning entertainment empire has presented 15 shows simultaneously throughout the world.
In Vegas, Cirque's partnership with MGM Mirage has spawned five productions: "Mystère," "O," "Zumanity," "KÀ" and "The Beatles LOVE."
