Spice Girls reveal plans for more dates, hits album
The Spice Girls reunion continues to surprise even the girls themselves, who are rearranging their North American schedule to add more dates following sellouts in Vancouver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Jose, CA.
The arena tour, which kicks off Dec. 2 in Vancouver, has a two-night stand booked in Los Angeles, and a second date was recently added in Las Vegas. A New York City show originally set for Dec. 11 is being rescheduled and more US dates may be added, according to a press release. An updated North American itinerary is listed below.
In London, the Spice Girls sold out their Dec. 15 O2 arena gig in 38 seconds, prompting the addition of several more performances. The world tour is also scheduled to visit Cologne, Madrid, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires through late January. Information about overseas dates can be found at the group's website.
In the meantime, a Spice Girls hits album will be released in the US next month under an exclusive partnership with retailer Victoria's Secret. "Spice Girls: Greatest Hits"--which features 13 of the British group's best-selling singles, two new songs and three downloadable remixes--will be available only in Victoria's Secret stores in the US and on the company's website for a two-month period beginning Nov. 13. Starting at midnight tonight (10/17), fans will have 24 hours to pre-order the set at the Victoria's Secret website.
The album will be available nationwide Jan. 15, at which time Capitol Music Group will release a deluxe edition including a DVD with all of the Spice Girls' promotional videos. The label will also offer a gift-box version with CD, DVD, karaoke disc and bracelet.
The reunion brings Victoria Beckham, Mel B., Emma Bunton, Melanie C. and Geri Halliwell together for the first time in six years. Halliwell left the group in 1998 and the remaining members parted ways in 2001.
The ladies will make their reunion television debut at this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which is scheduled to air Dec. 4 on CBS-TV
The Spice Girls burst onto the scene in the mid-'90s and topped radio charts with the song "Wannabe," which broke the record for the highest debut by a British band on Billboard's Hot 100, according to a press release. They went on to sell 55 million albums worldwide.
