Meat Puppets add fall dates to reunion tour

Rejuvenated alt-rockers Meat Puppets continue their return to full-time touring as the trio maps out dates for a fall tour behind July's "Rise to Your Knees."

The group will inaugurate its late-year run Oct. 5 in its adopted hometown of Austin, TX, the first of a pair of Texas shows the Puppets will play with Sonic Youth in October. The other SY/Puppets tangle comes Oct. 7 in Dallas.

After the Texas dates, the trio--which consists of brothers Curt and Cris Kirkwood, along with new drummer Ted Marcus--will hit clubs and small theaters in 14 cities through the middle of November. Dates are listed below.

"Rise to Your Knees" is the first new Meat Puppets album since 2000's "Golden Lies," and the first in a dozen years to feature guitarist/singer Curt Kirkwood paired with his brother, bassist and Puppets co-founder Cris Kirkwood, who left the band in 1995 due to substance abuse issues.

"This record is very much a return to our '80s approach," Curt Kirkwood said of the new disc in a prepared statement. "It cost next to nothing to make, and everything on it is a first take. My attitude now is that I refuse to spend a lot of money on this, I refuse to overthink it, and I refuse to let other people impose their own agendas on my band."

The band recently launched a new website to keep fans apprised of the Meat Puppets' current adventures. The original site, which is controlled by original drummer Derrick Bostrom, serves mainly as an archive of information and rarities from the group's early history.
