Donita Sparks ignites solo career

L7 frontwoman Donita Sparks is on the road with The Donnas, previewing material from her forthcoming solo set.

The five-week trek, which launched last week, is scheduled to criss-cross the US and stop in Toronto for one night. It resumes tomorrow (9/27) in Omaha and is set to wrap Oct. 27 in West Hollywood, CA. The itinerary is listed below.

Following The Donnas outing, Sparks will head out for more US dates as well as tours of Brazil and Europe, according to a press release.

The vocalist and her band, The Stellar Moments, are gearing up for the release of their debut, "Transmiticate," which is set to drop Jan. 22. The record, produced by Ethan Allen (The 88, Gram Rabbit), is filled with dance-rock and dark-pop, and takes Sparks into new territories, according to a press release. The video for lead single "Infancy of a Disaster" is streaming at YouTube's website.

The Stellar Moments band comprises drummer and former L7 bandmate Lady Dee Plakas, bassist Dat T. Ngo, and guitarists Alan The Italian Santalesa and Sid Brown.

Sparks co-founded rock band L7 in 1985. During its 15 year career, the group released six studio albums, one live record and a greatest-hits set. Sparks last toured with L7 in 2000.

When she's not rocking, the singer writes the "The Spin I'm In" music column for politically progressive blog website Firedoglake.com.
