Hanson spreads message on 'The Walk' tour

Brother-band Hanson has added another leg to its US tour and devised a plan to make the outing part of an effort to help AIDS relief in Africa.

The pop-rockers--who have nearly sold out their first round of dates, according to a press release-- now have shows booked across the country into November. A second September concert in Chicago was also recently added. Retro-rockers Locksley will fill the support slot on the tour, dates for which are listed below.

Hanson is supporting its fourth studio set, "The Walk," which surfaced in July. Staying with the theme of the album, the band will host a one-mile walk in each market along the tour to bring attention to poverty and AIDS in Africa. The location of each day's walk is announced on Hanson's website three hours in advance.

The group has also teamed with TOMS Shoes, which, for every pair of shoes sold, will donate an equal pair to a child in need. TOMS Shoes will be sold at each tour stop and at the company's website. The goal is to deliver 50,000 pairs at the African shoe drop.

"We want to inspire others to look for simple, tangible and fun ways to make a difference," Taylor Hanson said in a statement. "It is easy to be halted by the great hurdles of poverty and AIDS, but making an impact can begin as simply as giving someone a pair of shoes or buying a song."

The song the singer/pianist speaks of is "Great Divide," which Hanson recorded in Africa and released last November. Proceeds from the download-only tune are being donated to HIVSA, an African AIDS relief organization.

"The Walk," released on Hanson's own 3CG label, was inspired in part by the brothers' trip to South Africa and Mozambique, where they recruited children from a local orphanage to form a choir. The album hit No. 4 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart.

The new set follows 2004's "Underneath," which reached No. 1 on the Independent Albums chart and No. 25 on The Billboard 200, making it one of the most successful self-released albums in history, according to Hanson's bio.

The Grammy-nominated Hanson brothers--Taylor, guitarist Isaac and drummer Zac--shot to fame as youngsters 10 years ago with their smash, teeny-bopper hit "MmmBop."
