The nominees are in for the 41st Annual Country Music Association Awards, and Brad Paisley and George Strait are at the top of the list with five nods apiece.
Following closely behind are Kenny Chesney , Alison Krauss and Martina McBride , who are vying for four awards each, and John Rich , Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban , who are up for three.
The trophies will be handed out Nov. 7 at the Sommet Center in Nashville, TN, and the shindig will air live on ABC-TV.
For the second year in a row, five of the 12 CMA Awards nominations were announced on ABC's "Good Morning America." Sara Evans and Sugarland did the honors this morning (8/30) at the program's New York City studios. The remaining categories were announced by Montgomery Gentry and 17-year-old Horizon Award nominee Taylor Swift on a special edition of Country Music Television's "CMT Insider," which was broadcast live from the Sommet Center.
Strait's five CMA nods (Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album, Musical Event and Single of the Year) bring his career total up to 70. That puts him second behind Alan Jackson, who has 75 with this year's nomination for Musical Event of the Year.
With two nods this year, Reba McEntire solidifies her position as the female artist with the most nominations (45) in the 41-year history of the CMA Awards. McEntire is up for Female Vocalist and Musical Event of the Year for her duet with Kelly Clarkson, "Because of You."
The George W. Bush-bashing Dixie Chicks , who had one of country music's top-selling albums last year but were shut out of the 2006 CMA Awards, are back this year with a nod in the Vocal Group category.
The award nominees and winners are determined by the 6,000 industry professionals who are members of the CMA trade organization.
