Indie popsters The New Pornographers have added a second leg to a fall tour that supports the group's forthcoming studio album, "Challengers."
The Vancouver-based act will kick off the outing close to home with a Sept. 13 show in Victoria, British Columbia. The band's previously announced September dates now segue smoothly into a full slate of shows in October and on into early November. Despite the band's reputation for a somewhat loose and shifting lineup, the group's core members--including Dan Behar and Neko Case --are expected to be on hand for the fall trek.
A variety of opening acts--including Lavender Diamond , Emma Pollock and a pair of New Pornographers side projects, Immaculate Machine and Fancey --will tackle opening duties during the tour, which includes a pair of early November co-headlining shows in Texas with Spoon . All dates are noted below.
Due out Aug. 21, "Challengers" is The New Pornographers' fourth studio album, and follows the band's 2005 breakthrough set, "Twin Cinema."
Faced with an early online leak of the new album, the band responded by making "Challengers" available in a special bonus edition through Matador Records' "Buy Early Get Now" pre-order program. Fans who buy the deluxe version will receive first dibs on new Pornographers tracks and live recordings from the upcoming tour, along with the ability to download this material on an exclusive basis and burn their own CD copies of the box set.
Additionally, fans who purchase the "Executive Edition" will be able to stream the new album right now, and will also receive priority access to tickets for upcoming shows. More information is available at the band's website.
