311 firms up Summer Unity Tour

Reggae rockers 311 have put the finishing touches on their Summer Unity Tour, which will hit nearly 50 US cities from coast to coast this summer.

The trek, which features American-Jewish reggae artist Matisyahu on most dates, kicks off June 21 in Tucson, AZ. Cities recently added to the schedule include Baltimore, MD; Lake Tahoe, NV; Portland, OR; and Seattle, where the tour's finale will take place Aug. 29. Most of the gigs are at outdoor venues. Details are listed below.

Various opening acts--including The English Beat and Particle --will also perform at select shows. The breakdown of which artists will appear at each date is available at 311's website. Tickets for most markets are currently on sale.

311, known for blending rock, reggae, hip-hop and funk, will vary its setlist each night, playing songs from all eight of its albums, according to a tour announcement. The group encourages fans to map out road trips to see multiple shows.

Last year's Summer Unity Tour was 311's biggest outing to date, with sold-out shows in Denver, Atlanta and Holmdel, NJ, according to a press release.

The Omaha-bred, Los Angeles-based band continues to support its latest set, 2005's "Don't Tread on Me," the title track from which is streaming at 311's MySpace page.

The platinum-selling group, which has been around for 17 years, has reached the Top 10 on The Billboard 200 with four albums and scored six Top 10 modern-rock singles with hits including "Down," "Love Song" and "Don't Tread on Me."
