Briefly: Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Extreme, Johnny Cash

"Black Rain," the first new studio set from Ozzy Osbourne in six years, will land in stores late next month, the heavy-metal godfather announced today (4/10).

Due out May 22, the set features Osbourne and his touring band, which features longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde, drummer Mike Bordin and bassist Blasko. Samples from the forthcoming collection are streaming at Osbourne's website.

Osbourne plans to back the set with a world tour that includes a headlining slot on his namesake summer tour, Ozzfest--tickets for which, as previously reported, will be free this year.

While his father, guitarist Eddie Van Halen , continues his stint in rehab, prodigal son Wolfgang Van Halen has chimed in about being anointed as the band's touring replacement for original bassist Michael Anthony--a position the youth is apparently declining.

Wolfgang, 16, recently told People magazine that he isn't disappointed Van Halen has indefinitely postponed its planned summer reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth.

"I ... think I'm too young for the experience, because I know there are a lot of bad things out there," the teen is quoted as saying.

The original lineup for Boston rockers Extreme --Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt, Pat Badger and Paul Geary--will reunite for a one-off, May 18 benefit concert in New York City. The event--which will also include an auction featuring music memorabilia--is being held in honor of former Extreme manager Steven Hoffman, who died of lung cancer in 2003 at the age of 38. Proceeds will benefit lung cancer research, according to a press release. Additional details, including ticket information, are available at the Steven Hoffman Fund's website.

Joanne Cash, sister of Johnny Cash , issued a statement this afternoon (4/10) in response to a fire today that destroyed the late country-music legend's home in Hendersonville, TN.

"Of course we are all in a state of shock," Joanne Cash said. "I feel that an era has passed. Just today in prayer, I had decided to move on, even discarding old newspaper clippings not realizing that this terrible thing would happen. My prayers are with the Cash family and especially the Gibb family during this time."

According to a press release, the 13,000-square-foot home--which Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees purchased in 2006, and was in the process of renovating--was "completely destroyed" by a fire that broke out around 2 p.m. CST today.
