Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have announced the addition of several early- to mid-October dates to their "Echo" tour, but the tour's end is still set for Oct. 16 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Newly-announced shows have been set for the Philadelphia, Virginia Beach, Columbia, Md., Bloomington, Ind., Chicago, Detroit, Moline, Ill., Madison, Wis., and Las Vegas areas. Opening acts haven't been announced.
Petty's camp so far hasn't announced rescheduled dates for two shows that were postponed in late August. Performances that had been set for the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif., and the E Center of West Valley City, Utah, were called off when Petty came down with a case of laryngitis.
Petty has been on tour for much of the year in support of ''Echo,'' his thirteenth album. He warmed up in April with three shows at New York's Irving Plaza and a brief European tour. His summer amphitheater/arena tour, which got underway in June, has been one of the year's most successful, averaging attendance of better than 15,000 per show, according to concert industry trade Pollstar.
