Tommy Lee Turns Himself In To North Carolina Sheriff
Estranged Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee turned himself in to the Guilford County Sheriff's Department on Monday (10/11), facing charges that date back to a performance two years ago in Greensboro, N.C.
According to the News & Record, a Guilford County newspaper, Lee arrived at the Sheriff's office with his attorney and was served with charges of felony riot with ethnic animosity and simple assault, a misdemeanor. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
The charges were filed following a 1997 concert at Greensboro Coliseum, where Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx allegedly directed racial slurs at a black guard and encouraged the crowd to attack him. Sixx and Lee also allegedly poured beer on the guard's head. After the show, bandmembers claimed they were provoked when they saw the security guard roughing up some fans.
The security guard has since filed civil suits against Lee and Sixx and the cases are scheduled to be heard by a judge in November, according to the News & Record
Just over a month ago, Sixx was arrested after a Motley Crue concert in Raleigh, N.C., on an outstanding warrant that stemmed from the same incident. Lee had left Motley Crue earlier this year, saying he wanted to focus his energies on a reconciliation with his wife, actress Pamela Anderson Lee, and to work on his side project, Methods of Mayhem.
After Sixx was arrested, the local sheriff made it known that a warrant for Lee's arrest was still outstanding, and he threatened to add Lee to a national most-wanted list.
