Rapper Jay-Z 's planned Oct. 23 concert in Shanghai apparently has been nixed by Chinese authorities, who cited the artist's sometimes-vulgar language.

Reports of the cancellation surfaced in the state-run Shanghai Daily newspaper.

Iggy Pop and The Stooges are currently at Steve Albini's Chicago studio, recording their first new album since 1973.

The band's lineup includes veteran Stooges Scott Asheton (drums) and Ron Asheton (guitar), as well as bassist Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE), who has been playing with the group on its recent live dates. Watt is blogging about the recording sessions at his website.

The as-yet-untitled album is expected to hit stores sometime next year.

Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue has taken a break from his band to record his first solo album, "Please Come Home." The set is due Jan. 23 via the Equal Vision label.

"Before I ever played in a band, I would take my acoustic guitar wherever I went and would sing and play for whoever was around," Kensrue said in a press release. "I wanted these songs at their core to work in that street corner kind of sense, just a guy with his guitar a voice and a story to tell."
