The new album ''Pete Townshend Live: A Benefit For Maryville Academy'' (Platinum Entertainment), culled from a Maryville Benefit show at House of Blues Chicago in 1998, was released last week.
Townshend recently told Billboard that he linked with the charity in the aftermath of a 1993 Chicago concert that was aborted when he -- after getting drunk backstage to quell an anxiety attack -- fell and sprained his ankle.
According to the magazine, Townshend still felt bad about the incident when he returned to Chicago for a ''Tommy'' performance two years later. A friend involved with the Maryville Academy told him that he might try to make amends by playing a benefit show, which Townshend did in 1997 and 1998.
The Who is also scheduled to play acoustic sets on both days of the Bridge School Benefit, which is set for Oct. 30 and 31 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif.
