Country legend George Jones will get a little help from his friends on his new album, "God's Country," which features a pair of Jones performances bookending an all-star lineup covering some of his classics.
Jones, now fully recovered from the bout with pneumonia that caused him to cancel several shows earlier this year, performs two songs on the disc, which ships Oct. 17. The album's title track, an original Jones composition, will be the first single. The set also features Jones dueting with Garth Brooks.
The rest of the album will consist of a star-studded lineup of country stars interpreting some of Jones' signature tunes. Performers on the album include Vince Gill , Sammy Kershaw , Pam Tillis and Tanya Tucker , among others.
"Nobody in the world sings like him. Nobody in the world can sing like him," Gill said in a press release. "It's like trying to cover the Beatles."
"They all did such a great job, it sounds fresh and new," said Jones. "I'm honored that Category 5 Records is so enthusiastic about this project and look forward to the single release."
An accompanying DVD will feature behind-the-scenes footage, the full video of Jones performing the album's title track, and interviews with many of the performers who worked on the sessions.
Jones, 75, continues to tour steadily. His next show is scheduled for Oct. 10 in Prior Lake, MN.
