Farm Aid adds Los Lonely Boys, Jerry Lee Lewis, more
A slew of new artists have been added to this year's Farm Aid benefit concert, set to take place Sept. 30 at Camden, NJ's Tweeter Center at the Waterfront.
Organizers announced this week that Jerry Lee Lewis with Roy Head, Los Lonely Boys , Arlo Guthrie , Gov't Mule , and Steve Earle & Allison Moorer are among the new acts confirmed to join longtime Farm Aid mainstays Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews at this year's show.
Also confirmed for the event, which aims to promote food from family farms and raise funds to support Farm Aid's work, are Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Steel Pulse, Shelby Lynne, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jimmy Sturr & his Orchestra, Pauline Reese and Danielle Evin. Tickets are still available, according to organizers.
Nelson, Mellencamp and Young staged the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Matthews, who has appeared on several Farm Aid bills, joined the organization's board of directors in 2001.
Last year's Farm Aid benefit, which marked the event's 20th anniversary and grossed $1.3 million in ticket sales, took place in the Chicago area. Joining Nelson, Mellencamp, Young and Matthews on the bill were Kenny Chesney, Los Lonely Boys, Widespread Panic, Buddy Guy, Wilco and Susan Tedeschi, among others.
Organizers say that Farm Aid has raised more than $29 million over its history to support family farms.
