Tammy Wynette To Receive Posthumous Country Music Pioneer Award

Tammy Wynette has been named the first posthumous recipient of the Academy of Country Music's Pioneer Award, which recognizes outstanding and unprecedented achievement in country music. Wynette died in her sleep in 1998 after several years of ill health.

Wynette sold more than 30 million records during the course of her 30-year career, and was probably most recognized for her signature song, ''Stand by Your Man.''

Among those scheduled to pay tribute to Wynette during the May 3 CBS-TV telecast of the ACM Awards are Trisha Yearwood , the Judds, Patty Loveless , Martina McBride and Dolly Parton, who will also host the ceremonies.
