Ozzy plans more second-stage performances

Ozzy Osbourne , who in the past has normally headlined the mainstage at his trademark traveling rock festival, Ozzfest , has added two more dates to his list of upcoming performances on the tour's second stage.

Originally scheduled to cap the mainstage lineup during Ozzfest's Sunday (7/16) stop in the Chicago area and Aug. 6 stop in Bristow, VA, The Prince of Darkness will now give a daytime, second-stage performance in both cities, according to his publicist.

So far, Osbourne has logged three second-stage performances during the tour, which kicked off late last month, and now has a total of six more ahead of him, as well as three mainstage appearances. Details are included in the itinerary below.

Perhaps to make up for his lack of headlining dates on Ozzfest, Osbourne has slipped into his schedule a one-off, non-Ozzfest, headlining show in the Kansas City area on July 14. Consider it a mini-Ozzfest, as Black Label Society, Atreyu and Unearth--all of whom are part of Ozzfest's second-stage lineup--will open the show.

Osbourne announced earlier this year that he would be scaling back his participation during this year's Ozzfest "because after 10 years I feel it's time to let someone else share the headlining spotlight," he said in a press release. "We want to shake it up a bit this year. I've closed virtually every Ozzfest performance for a decade now, and I feel I can finally let other artists headline our festival and that's my intention for the future."

Ozzfest's main-stage bill features System of a Down, Disturbed , Avenged Sevenfold, Hatebreed and Lacuna Coil. Black Label Society, led by Osbourne's guitarist, Zakk Wylde, headlines the second-stage lineup, which, in addition to Atreyu and Unearth, also features Bleeding Through, Norma Jean, A Life Once Lost, Strapping Young Lad, The Red Chord, Full Blown Chaos, Walls of Jericho, All That Remains, Between the Buried and Me, and Bad Acid Trip.
