Farm Aid show set for the Philadelphia area
This year's edition of the long-running Farm Aid benefit concert is set to take place Sept. 30 at Camden, NJ's Tweeter Center at the Waterfront, near Philadelphia.
Event co-founders Willie Nelson , Neil Young and John Mellencamp will be on this year's bill, along with longtime supporter Dave Matthews . Other acts will be announced, according to organizers.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public July 22, but members of Farm Aid's FarmYard club can purchase tickets during a pre-sale beginning July 14. Details are available at the Farm Aid website.
Nelson, Mellencamp and Young staged the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Matthews, who has appeared on several Farm Aid bills, joined the organization's board of directors in 2001.
Last year's Farm Aid benefit, which marked the event's 20th anniversary and grossed $1.3 million in ticket sales, took place in the Chicago area. Joining Nelson, Mellencamp, Young and Matthews on the bill were Kenny Chesney, Los Lonely Boys, Widespread Panic, Buddy Guy, Wilco and Susan Tedeschi, among others.
Organizers say that Farm Aid has raised more than $29 million over its history to support family farms.
