The Flaming Lips have padded their summer-tour itinerary with a slew of new dates that will keep them on the road through the end of the summer.
The new batch of shows moves the tour's launch date up to July 10, when the band will get things started with a performance in Lawrence, KS, and a dozen additional dates--including stops in Philadelphia, Montreal, Boston and Atlanta--fill the gaps in a schedule that now stretches through mid-September.
More shows are expected, as a press release describes the current itinerary as "the first part" of the band's North American tour.
During the course of the tour--which so far comprises a mix of headlining dates and festival appearances--the group will share the stage with a number of acts, including De La Soul, Ween and The Go! Team, as well as Sonic Youth and The Magic Numbers, both of whom are scheduled to join the Lips for a number of late-August and early September concerts. Details are included below.
On July 23, the Lips will perform a sold-out, headlining set at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The 17,500-ticket sellout makes the concert the fastest-selling show at the venue this season, according to Warner Bros. Records.
The day after the Hollywood Bowl performance, The Lips will turn up as the musical guests on ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
The Lips' summer tour supports their April release, "At War With the Mystics," which is the band's 12th studio album. Each song from the album is streaming at the group's website, which also features a track-by-track commentary from the band.
