Rock supergroup Audioslave has nailed down a Sept. 5 release date for its third album, titled "Revelations."
The disc will hit stores just 16 months after the band released its sophomore set, last year's "Out of Exile," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"Revelations" features the cuts "Original Fire," described in a press release as a "groove-driven" track that will serve as the album's first single, and "Wide Awake," a song about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
"It's probably Audioslave's most political song to date," guitarist Tom Morello said in a statement.
The full tracklisting for "Revelations" is included below.
The Grammy-nominated quartet, which recorded both "Out of Exile" and its 2002 self-titled debut with renowned producer Rick Rubin, recorded "Revelations" with veteran producer Brendan O'Brien, whose resume includes albums with Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and Bruce Springsteen.
O'Brien was no stranger to the members of Audioslave--former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell and former Rage Against the Machine power trio Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass) and Brad Wilk (drums)--when he took the reigns for "Revelations"; in addition to mixing "Out of Exile," he produced several Rage Against the Machine albums, and mixed Soundgarden's 1992 set, "Superunknown."
Last October, Audioslave offered up a live DVD/CD set titled "Live in Cuba," which captured the band's May 6, 2005 performance at Anti-Imperialist Plaza in Havana. The group is the first American rock band to perform on Cuban soil.
