Indie-rockers Xiu Xiu are set to kick off a long summer tour as they prepare for the Sept. 15 release of their new album, "The Air Force."
The band, which features members from Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area, will play a set at the June 17 Festival Internacional Sonorama in Guadalajara, Mexico, before kicking off their headlining tour September 22 in Salt Lake City. The group will also play Olympia, WA's Aug. 3 Homo a Go Go festival, billed by promoters as a showcase for "queer music, art, film, performance and activism."
Xiu Xiu recently completed a European tour, the full itinerary of which can be found on the band's website.
"The Air Force," due in stores Sept. 15, was produced by Deerhoof's Greg Saunier, who also appears as a guest artist on the album. The disc follows 2005's "La Foret" and is the group's fifth studio album since the prolific unit debuted in 2002 with "Knife Play."
The group, whose name derives from a 1998 Chinese film, has featured a revolving cast of permanent and guest musicians, and currently includes only one original member, vocalist Jamie Stewart.
