Boy George Denied US Visa
Boy George has been denied entry into the US, putting his upcoming summer tour in jeopardy. A statement issued on his behalf said the performer is devastated that he will not be able to tour the US this summer as planned. However, the US dates have yet to be canceled, according to published reports.
The singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, was denied a visa because he is facing a trial in London for an incident that occurred in April 2007, according to the statement. O'Dowd was arrested for assault and false imprisonment after a 28-year-old male escort from Norway claimed he was chained to a wall and threatened at the performer's East London home.
O'Dowd, who has denied the charges, is free on unconditional bail and British authorities apparently are allowing him to travel. "He is clearly not considered any form of risk in London in that regard and in that respect, we are asking US Authorities to reconsider their position," his management said.
