SXSW Performer: The Raveonettes (New York, NY)

New York City's Raveonettes originally hail from Denmark, where indie-pop bands hellbent on reconstructing Phil Spector's legendary Wall of Sound are not exactly clogging the footpaths.

Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner boldly borrow from a host of influences, but pinning them all down can be tricky. The dark lyrical themes and wind-tunnel vocals harken back to The Velvet Underground, but the two-part harmonies are ripped straight from the pages of The Everly Brothers. "We are not scared of being blunt about what the references are in our music," Foo told an interviewer last year. Their latest album, last year's "Lust, Lust, Lust," pushes the band toward a harder-edged sound while retaining the smooth vocal teamwork that characterizes their earlier work.

Performing Thursday, March 13 at 12:30 a.m. at Vice (302 E. 6th St.) and Saturday, March 15 at 10 p.m. at Emo's Main Room (603 Red River St.).
