Yonder Mountain String Band heads out behind 'The Show'
Progressive bluegrass act Yonder Mountain String Band has tacked a fall US run onto its current summer itinerary in support of the group's forthcoming album, "The Show."
The Colorado-based outfit continues its summer dates with a sold-out concert Thursday (8/27) in Boulder, followed by 10 stops throughout the Rocky Mountain region into late September. The newly scheduled fall concerts begin Oct. 6 in Pittsburgh and extend along the East Coast and into the Midwest before wrapping with a two-night stand Oct. 30-31 in Lawrence, KS. Details are below.
Banjo and guitar player Danny Barnes will open the fall dates and special guest Darol Anger will join YMSB for shows in Milwaukee (10/21), Madison (10/22) and Chicago (10/23-10/24).
Yonder Mountain String Band will release its fifth studio set, "The Show," Sept. 1 on the group's own Frog Pad Records. The new album marks the band's second time to work alongside rock producer Tom Rothrock (Foo Fighters, Beck).
"I like to think of us as informed by the past and all the great performers before us," banjo player Dave Johnston said of the new material in a message posted at the band's website. "But we also want to look forward rather than give people something that has already been perfected."
Beginning today (8/25), fans can download via Apple's iTunes Music Store "Complicated," a track from the "The Show," a full week before the record's release. Those who pre-order the full album via iTunes will also receive a nine-minute bonus song titled "Midwest Gospel Radio," which was recorded in 2005 during sessions for the group's previous studio set, according to YMSB's website.
